Sittin' on my Daddy's knee He was tryin' to warn me 'bout the things I's gonna see And he said " Son, there's one place you don't ever want to be Between the Devil and the deep blue sea" The Devil and the deep blue sea I didn't listen, that's the way I am I tried to change but I don't think I can Sometimes it feels as though my whole life's been planned The Devil and the deep blue sea The Devil and the deep blue sea It ain't a mystery Any fool with eyes can see I'm being squeezed Between the Devil and the deep blue sea Day I's born the corn all died Mama ran away and Daddy tried To keep me on the straight and narrow path But the Devil saw me comin' and he laid a trap Crows on a wire spelt a morse-code message Take the right hand road if you wanna get to heaven I was young, foolish, just didn't know Heaven's straight ahead, never trust a crow Woke up this morning with an achin' head Black cat bones scattered round my bed I ain't evil, I'm just easily led The Devil and the deep blue sea The Devil and the deep blue sea It ain't a mystery Any fool with eyes could see I'm being squeezed Between the Devil and the deep blue sea The Devil and the deep blue sea The Devil and the deep blue sea The Devil and the deep blue sea

1 Step 2 Far 03:45
As a child, growing up, there's lessons to learn Behave yourself, watch your mouth, just wait your turn It's like it was just yesterday, I can still hear Mama say One step too far and you'll pay Some people learn from mistakes, they come to their senses There's winners and losers, kisses or bruises, consequences Oh but me, I can't get it straight, always starting too early or stopping too late One step too far and you'll pay Let me tell you what happened I paid! Everybody knows that I paid I paid in blood, sweat or tears for every wrong move that I made I'll work it out, but I couldn't say when Or how many times I'll be back before then But right now I am one step too far again The time that it takes for a whisper to turn to a scream The time that it takes for a nightmare to swallow a dream It's the blink of an eye, the slam of a gate Didn't listen, couldn't wait One step, that's all it takes One step is all it takes One step too far and you'll pay

Who's Yudu? 03:06
I'd like to sit around all day and chill like you do Never known another man got it so sweet If I could only live that sweet old life like you do Never cooking, just waiting to eat Who's Yudu? who's this Yudu dude? And why do you know what you do about what Yudu's doin' I don't know no Yudu dude but you do Tell me, do you do the things you do with me with Yudu too? I can't believe you even act like you do Who me? What about the things you do with Yudu Why do you keep saying crazy things like you do? Who in hell is Yudu? I'm asking you, who's this Yudu dude? Who's Yudu? You know, you know who Who's Yudu? If everybody partied long and hard like you do This world we live in would soon run out of fun And if everybody stayed in bed as late as you do Ain't one thing needs doin's gonna get done Who's Yudu? Who's this Yudu dude? And why do you know what you do about what Yudu'd doin'? I don't know no Yudu dude but you do Tell me, do you do the things you do with me with Yudu too? Who's Yudu? You know, you know who. Who's Yudu?

Bedtime for baby, it's baby's bedtime Bedtime for baby, its baby's bedtime Bedtime for baby, it's baby's bedtime Bedtime for baby, it's baby's bedtime We've all got to lie down, one time or another Every mother, father, sister and brother Eat when we're hungry, drink when we're dry Cry when we're lonely, sleep when we're tired Bedtime for baby, it's baby's bedtime Bedtime for baby, it's baby's bedtime When your body's weary and your spirit ain't strong The load seems so heavy and the road seems so long Lay down your head my friend and rest for a while There's a new day tomorrow, we'll do it in style Sun's going down, moon's waiting in the wings Soon the stars will be out to listen to the nightingale sing Forget you worries, wipe the slate clean Slowly drifting down a river of dreams Bedtime for baby, it's baby's bedtime Bedtime for baby, it's baby's bedtime

Smoocher 02:33 video
I've kissed one or two boys before So what, my lips got sore Didn't seem to be much future Kissing creeps that didn't suit ya Never thought that I'd become a smoocher When I'm kissed by my latest guy My knees go weak, my head gets light Lips meet lips, my heart beats twice There's more to kissing than meets the eye I'm telling you this so you can understand why I think it's love, love so sweet Love, love's got a hold on me I used to wonder if I'd ever meet a man To make me feel like I've heard they can In the songs and the movies and the magazines The kind of thing that happens in you dreams I can't believe it's happening to me I think it's love, love so sweet Love, love's got a hold on me I think it's love, love so sweet Love, love's got a hold on me

Come to Me 05:09
Come to me, come to me Turn a moment into a memory Come to me, come to me Take my hand, take me back, set me free We've known each other for a long, long time I know your family, you know mine All through the school years we teased and we sparred And you once let me kiss you in your Grandma's backyard But you went to college and I went to work You married that psycho, and you married that jerk Two small town shipwrecks drifting apart But I never got over your Grandma's backyard You can laugh at my husband but he's been good to me He don't ask for too much and he gives me security But I heard from your sister that you were sleeping apart So I sent you that message about Grandma's backyard Now here we both are in this cheap motel room I'm not staying all night, in fact, I might have to leave soon So let's not waste time, reliving the past We've got unfinished business from Grandma's backyard Come to me, come to me Turn a moment into a memory Come to me, come to me Take my hand, take me back, set me free

That's how it works You fire a shot and it hurts I fire back, that makes it worse That's how it works That's Friday night We drink too much and we fight Might frighten the kids, but they'll be alright That's Friday night That's how we roll One part heart, one part soul So hot when it's hot, so cold when it's cold That's how we roll 'Cause that's how we learned You play with fire you get burned Kisses are sweet but they have to be earned That's how we learned So that's all we know Eye to eye, toe to toe Hold nothing back, let it all show That's all we know That's how we roll One part heart, one part soul So hot when it's hot, so cold when it's cold That's how we roll So hot when it's hot, so cold when it's cold That's how we roll

Dreamer 03:45 video
Dreamer, that's what they say I am Either got my head in the clouds or buried in the sand If I had a friend he'd tell me "Son, face the facts You're a mixed up misfit from the wrong side of the tracks" But in my dream world, none of this is true I've got a dream job, a dream home, a dream girl Who looks a lot like you My dream job, I have to say Not a lotta work, but a lotta lotta pay No early mornings and no late nights Gotta get that work/life balance right But my dream job, would just be something that I do Without a dream girl, who looks a lot like you My dream home, it's kinda big Got room for a dog, a horse, a cow and a pig High on a hill by the deep blue sea It's got a swimming pool, shaped like a Xmas tree But my dream home, would just echo like a tomb Without a dream girl, who looks a lot like you My dream girl, if I had my pick Not too tall, about five foot six Not too broad, and not too narrow Don't want a pigeon but I sure don't want no sparrow My dream girl, would look a lot like you Baby, let's face it, you're my dream girl, so what we gonna do? And she said Dream on, dreamer, dream on Dream on. dreamer, dream on

Comin' home, late at night Turn the corner and see the light shining Showing me the way I follow that star, through the lobby doors Take the stairs to the second floor And as i'm turning my key, I'm calling your name Open the door and it's plain to see why there was no reply The room is bare, you're not there, it's late at night I check the closet but your clothes are gone This is starting to feel real wrong, and then I see A letter on the pillow is the only thing waiting for me Baby, I didn't know just what to say Face to face, I think it's better this way I hope you wish me well I fell in love with someone else You know you will survive, I'n sorry, goodbye It's always been my firm belief that a man should be strong And if he should ever show his grief, well that would be wrong Oh but I've never had feelings like these I couldn't get up off of my knees if I tried I think I'm gonna stay right here and cry Let the teats flow Cry, cry, cry Let the tears flow Cry ,cry, cry

Well, well, well, what do we have here It's a sticky situation, that much is clear When I opened my door I was not expecting what I saw You've got some explaining to do Well, well, well, what do we have here There's one or two things, baby, that you need to make clear I know you, I know me, who the fuck is she You've got some explaining to do Working from home, that's what you said You failed to mention there'd be someone else there If she is your secretary why is she in bed You've got some explaining to do Well, well, well, what do we have here You and another woman in your underwear Maybe there's a reason for this, and it looks far worse than it is But you've got some explaining to do You might think that I'm slow, but there's one thing that I know You've got some explaining to do You know, it just crossed my mind, you might do this all the time You've got some explaining to do

Who started? Who stopped? Who won? Who lost? None of these things really matter When you're counting the cost Who cheated? Who lied? Who pleaded? Who cried? We both know that we're guilty And we're both paying the price 'Cause we want one another But we can't get along 'Cause we're both part-time lovers And we know that it's wrong Oh but when we're apart each day's like a year But the fireworks start whenever we're near 'Cause there's too many secrets and there's too little trust We're building a dream on foundations of dust 'Cause we want one another But we can't get along 'Cause we're both part-time lovers And we know that it's wrong Who started? Who stopped? Who won? Who lost? None of these things really matter When you're counting the cost None of these things really matter None of these things really matter

Sweet As 02:48
Sweet as, sweet as, sweet as, sweet as I'm only here to tell you that we're through I'm checking out, I've found somebody new He don't run around and leave me sad and blue He doesn't do the things that you do Well, take my advice, hold on to your key Leave your things here 'cause I think you're gonna see Within a week you'll come crawling back to me 'Cause he doesn't do the things that I do His kisses might be Sweet as the sweetest thing in history Sweet as sweet potato wine Sweet as the honey from a bee But they would never be as sweet as mine So go on now girl but I'll see you Sunday night Don't worry 'bout me, I'm sure to be alright Whole bunch of women out there, got me in their sights Crazy for the things that I do I don't know where you get these big ideas Like you're the answer to every woman's prayers A cheating man like you ain't worth the pain and tears No one wants the things that you do It's true, you got a certain kind of style A certain kind of loving can drive a woman wild Can't we forget about the cheating and the lies You won't get better loving from any other guy It might be Sweet as the songbird's sweetest melody Sweet as sweet fruit on a vine Sweet as the sugar in your tea But it would never be as sweet as mine His kisses might be Sweet as the sweetest thing in history Sweet as sweet potato wine Sweet as the honey from a bee But it would never be as sweet Never be as sweet Never be as sweet as mine

The clouds have come down and smothered the mountain This house is as cold as a hole in the ground The kids are at school, reading and counting I'm sitting here while my heart's leaving town Singing yippee yi yo, yippee yi yay I'm saddling up and I'm riding away To the wide open spaces where the sky's blue all day Then the smoke clears, I'm still here, home on the range For rich or for poor, for worse or for better We rocked and we rolled over life's ups and downs But the rock and roll life is like an old country record There's a hole in the middle and it spins round and round Singing yippee yi yo, yippee yi yay I'm saddling up and I'm riding away To the wide open spaces where the sky's blue all day Then the smoke clears, I'm still here, home on the range Sometimes late at night while everyone's sleeping I sit on my front porch and set my mind free It runs trough the dark where the shadows are creeping Howls at the moon from the top of a tree Singing yippee yi yo, yippee yi yay I'm saddling up and I'm riding away To the wide open spaces where the sky's blue all day Then the smoke clears, I'm still here, home on the range Then the smoke clears, I'm still here, home on the range

Here I am, outside your door I'm no stranger, I've been here before Now I'm back, baby, beggin' for more Sweet sweet love Each time I leave it's gonna be The last, the last you'll ever see of me But I'm barely out of sight before I need Sweet sweet love That's why I keep on coming back That's why I keep on coming back to you Even though you treat me bad Even though you treat me like you do It's still the best I've ever had There's still no one compares to you Sweet sweet love People say, "love will set you free" I'm your prisoner, you do what you want with me I'm your prisoner, baby, trading my liberty For sweet sweet love And I know that the day may come, you no longer care The door don't open, I'm left standing there Until that time I'll take my share Of Sweet sweet love That's why I keep on coming back That's why I keep on coming back to you Even though you treat me bad Even though you treat me like you do It's still the best I've ever had There's still no one compares to you Sweet sweet love That's why I keep on coming back Sweet sweet love Even though you treat me bad Sweet sweet love It's still the best I've ever had Sweet sweet love

about

This album is almost impossible to categorize- there's country, dixie, funk, Polynesian, pop, soul plus a bit of south of the border thrown in for good measure, and yet it retains a cohesive and unified sound throughout- every song is part of the family. It was started in London and finished in Aotearoa/New Zealand with co-producer Chris Nielson, who was also responsible for the wonderful horn arrangements, before being mastered back in London. In the words of music writer and journalist Garth Cartwright-"...these songs might be rooted in the recordings made in small Southern US studios across the 60's and 70's, what makes Sweet Sweet Love distinctive is just how un-derivative Sam & Trudi's sound is. Unlike many a contemporary soul outfit who simply mimic what went before, their sound exudes their love of Aotearoa and Polynesia..."
